Can the ATS controller detect the loss of neutral?
Across all models for the low-voltage ASCO Transfer switches, the controllers employ line-to-line voltage measurements for the sensing of the availability and acceptability of the applied sources. Hence, even if the unit was specified with a solid, switched, or overlapping neutrals, the transfer switch controllers will not be able to sense the presence or absence of the neutral conductors.
For this reason, a three-phase ASCO transfer switch can be used for any three-phase source configuration, with or without neutral, for as long as the line-to-line voltage matches the rating of the transfer switch.
