NEC requires unsupported loads be shed. Sometimes people interpret this to mean that the loads must be shed based on the generator count. However, the code is not saying that. Essentially load shed is the result of an overload condition. If a generator is removed from the bus, but the remaining generators are not overloaded, load shed is not required.
