Load Banks and Regenerative Braking

What is regenerative braking?

Regenerative braking is the process of opposing inertial load by converting kinetic energy to electricity. Regenerative braking is essential for generator powered moving machinery that carries and moves vast weights such as lifts, cranes and hoists.

Why use a regenerative load bank?

Regenerative load places mechanical stresses on both the generator and engine. Engines are often only able to provide a small fraction of the total rated engine power as regenerative load and consequently may be unsuitable for application is which excessive braking forces are common. Load banks supplement the regenerative function of generator engines and regenerated current is redirected and dissipated as heat through the load bank. The load bank ensures the generator is not overly stressed and promotes a longer operational life of the gen-set.

Why use an ASCO load bank for regenerative braking?

ASCO regenerative load banks feature automatic load control and a reverse power relay for highly efficient electrical braking. ASCO offers a variety of regenerative models with a large kW range including free-standing outdoor rated units, radiator/duct mounted and containerised solutions.
